Friday Night

 
5:00 pm Check in, meet and greet.
6:00 pm Spaghetti Dinner
7:00 pm Leave No Trace— LNT workshop designed to teach the skills of Leave No Trace. Ron Burger “GreyBeard Beaver”, ALDHA & PATC Master Educator who has taught the course for over 4 years.
8:00 pm ALDHA’s 50th Aniversary Hike Plan for 2018— Teams of hikers will be hiking all 11 National Scenic Trails prior to the 2018 Gathering, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the National Scenic Trails Act. Discussion led by Ron Burger, ALDHA’s Assistant Coordinator.
9:00 pm Appalachian Trail Board Game— Come and play the new AT Game. We’ll form teams and compete for prizes!!

Saturday

 
7:00 am Breakfast— Blueberry pancakes, sausage and eggs, etc.* See the sign-up sheet.
9:00 am Hikes along the AT— Form into hiking groups and have a good time just be back in time for lunch and homemade soups!!!
9:00 am Pack Tuckerization— Bring your packs and have 2017 Thru-hikers go thru them. We will have scales and advice on everything you bring. This is for those hardy souls who are willing to volunteer to have their packs lightened. This is a good time to find out what YOU DO NOT NEED on the trail. Deborah “Mona Lisa” Coleman, Sarah “Firesocks” de Ferrai, Kendall “Jerkyl” Lott, Amy “Mrs. Joy” , John & Shauna Dickson aka “Pappy 12” and “Best Wife” will do the honors. (All 2017 AT Thru-hikers).
Noon Lunch— Homemade soups and sandwiches.

3:00 pm Thru-Hiking Bull Session— After we go thru the packs, we will have a discussion panel on Thru-Hiking the AT. Here is your chance to ask those who have completed the Appalachian Trail your questions. This is done at every ALDHA Gathering and it is your chance to get the AT Class of 2018 started off on the right foot. Or, maybe just listen to former thru-hikers expound on how to do it –or not do it!! All thru-hikers are welcome to offer advice.
4:30 pm What the Funk?— You don’t have to stink. You don’t have to get the NORO virus. Ladies, you can pee in your tent on a cold rainy night without fear of an accident. Tips on how to protect your health and that of others during your thru-hike. Jim “Sisu” Fetig, 2014 AT Thru-hiker, ridgerunner and ridgerunner coordinator for the PATC and frequent contributor to the “AT Expert Advice” Facebook page.
6:00 pm Ruck Feast— You know how it works, everyone brings a dish and we all eat like kings and leave lots for Glen, the caretaker!
7:00 pm NoRuck Group Picture— Tidy up and comb your hair (if you have some) and smile pretty for the camera. H. Dean Clark “Crooked Sticks”, ALDHA photographer.
7:15 pm Welcome— Glen, our host, on PATC, Jim Fetig on ATC, Tim Messerich on RPHVC, Nate on the AT Museum, and Jim Chambers on ALDHA.
7:30 pm Raffle— Proceeds will be split between PATC and ALDHA. Jill “IWOX” Byrd, AT 2016 and ALDHA Treasurer.
8:00 pm AT Thru Hike— Slideshow of Amy “Mrs. Joy” Forinash’s 2017 hike.
8:30 pm Flip Flopping the AT— 2017 Flip Flop Thru-Hikers, Sarah “Firesocks” de Ferrai, Kendall “Jekyl” Lott, and Deb “Mona Lisa” Coleman will discuss the pros and cons of a Flip Flop Hikes.
9:30 pm ALDHA’s Trail Work for 2018— Discussion of ALDHA’s Trail Work planned for 2018. Jim “Just Jim” Chambers, ALDHA Coordinator
